Pakistani Weddings

I have to go to a Pakistani wedding and on the invitation it states that no boxed gifts to be given.
So does this mean money has to be given? if so cheque or cash?

I dont know the traditions of a pakistani wedding, but I would have though gift vouchers would be better than cash or a cheque.
