Do the Royal Family need our money?

This prob isn't the right category, but wasn't sure where to put it - the question about the queen giving evidence reminded me how much I despise the royal family. I personally think they serve no purpose, however I know many people disagree - lots of people give the 'they're good for tourism' argument. My question is though - the Royal Family have oodles of their own cash, they live in properties they don't own for free, and yet we still give them �60m a year. I don't understand how the queen can sleep at night - she doesn't need this money, but she is quite happy to take it from the tax payer (think of the good this money could do to say one hospital). Whether you like the royal family or not - surely no-one can really believe they need this money and it is right they receive it? I realise they 'work' for it - but they don't need it! Why couldn't we keep the royal family, let them live in the palaces for free, but stop giving them money?? It makes me sick just thinking about them!!! Anyone agree?

utter b0llox, the French killed off their royal family and as far as I know France has a thriving tourism industry. I am not the Royal families No 1 fan but I will say that they make bl00dy good ambasadors for the UK, but that's it, so to answer your question, seeing as they are richer than you or I already, then no, they do not need our money

I mean, look at the stuff they have to buy every year:

1. Corgi ointment
2. OBEs, CBEs, MBEs, Dame and Knight stuff to give away
3. Crown polish
4. Moat water
5. New servants
6. Bearskins
7. M.O.T.s for gold carraiges
8. Windolene for palace windows (there's thousands of 'em, probably
9. Adult nappies for Prince Andrew
10. Nazi fancy dress uniforms for Prince Harry
11. Hair plugs for Prince William


The list is endless (except for the fact that it just ended there).

Well I'm not alone then! But does anybody else actually wonder how the queen can live with herself? Most normal people would feel bad about taking millions from the poor tax payers to fund lifestyle/go into bank account or whatever. I just wonder if any of them have a conscience at all. Not to get started on religion or anything, but if I were to believe in heaven and hell I would really question which one they'd be going to.

The royal family have done more for this country than any of you could even try to understand.
I am not going to go through any of it, you should have paid attention in history when you was at school.

I hate to get all dailymaily, but there are thousands of dole cheats all over the country who are following the example set by the royal family.

When I was younger, I was firmly anti-royal, but as I've got older my attitude has softened a lot....although I acknowledge that this may be partly down to see Helen Mirren in The Queen, and really liking the film.

Did you know, by the way, that all the swans in the country are owned by Her Majesty?

Sell the lot of em to the Yanks, they would pay good money, then turn Buckingham palace in to condos with astronomical managment fees to pay for the gaurds. You could a couple of million for each 2 bed apartment, whilst keeping the tourism malarky.
