Hit at roundabout
9 Answers
During the school run this morning I was going straight on at a roundabout, one that you can not see if the exit is clear until you have already committed yourself, so as normally happens at this roundabout, you end up staionary. There was ample room for cars to go around me to get to the other exit.
After about 25-30 seconds, a car hit me just behind my rear wheel which sent my youngest lad flying across the back seat (it is a classic car with lap belts). Both of us attended the hospital with my lad having 7 xrays. Both of us have stiff necks and aching backs, and I have and a couple of big bumps on my head as a result of hitting the drivers side window and knocking it out of the runner. The fortunate thing is that my son is ok which is what matters most.
The damage to the car stands at 2500 plus vat
Where do I stand here? Is there an issue because I was stationary on a roundabout?
The exit I needed has a yellow box marking about 3 car lengths into that road for the fire station, so it really is a regular thing to see cars stationary on this roundabout.
Thanks for any advice

Thank your lucky stars this was a minor collision what would have happened if you were actually moving or worse still on the motorway. Sorry to sound harsh but my personal view is that children shouldn't be in cars that don't have proper seatbelts I think it is irresponsible and highly dangerous as you have proved.
HI all,
I was actually hit in the side just behind the rear wheel, sorry if I did not make that clear. the other driver came round the island at hit us at about 20-30.
Can I also get something straight here. I drive a new shape vw passat every day, which is equipped with 10 air bags but I have this car which we all enjoy as we are car fanantics. I only use this car with passengers on a Friday. The school is about 5 miles from home and the kids frequently ask to go to school in this car. My view has changed a little now following the accident, my first in over 15 years, and I may move to something more modern for the Friday car.
It is not possible to fit 'standard' car seats due to the design of the car. It is a nissan fairlady Z, otherwise known as a 300zx. It is insured correctlywith specialist insurers.
Sorry if this sounds a little rough on some of the answers, but I feel some may have missed the point a little by not knowing all the facts.
That said, thanks for the constructive advice that has been forthcoming.
