My son has 2 middle names the name of his paternal grandfather (and I have since discovered my grandfather's middle name) and also my maiden name. His christian name was a joint descision although my husband said his name had to start with a G (number plate on car) and be Welsh so with all this in mind my no. 1 son goes by the grand name of Gwilym George Peers Fairclough, with a name like that I think he could be a prime minister!

Hi my daughters middle name is Rae since my Dad is Ray and she's his first and so far only grandchild...
I love middle names... names are like gifts you give to your children and to me it seems like a wasted opportunity to not give one - my Dad doesn't have one and he has said his name feels a little boring sometimes ... as if his parents didn't really go the extra effort for him on the name front...
I do think finding the right compromise is important if you and hubby are disputing which family member a middle name should be for but if you talk it out then a compromise can be reached... it took me and my hubby 9 months to do it!!! :-) Good luck!

We actually chose the middle names for our two girls first, they were always going to have a middle name.
The oldest daughters middle name is Lena after my nan and aunt, unfortunately I didn't like it enough to have it as a first name but I knew I wanted a family name (it actually made my Dad very happy and proud too because it was his Mum and sister who were called Lena) and that was very nice for me to see.
My youngest daughters middle name is Rose, this goes with her first name beautifully and it's my only neice's name.

Morning, Natalie - My middle is Leigh. My dad had a boat named Heavenly and he wanted that as my middle name. My mum said no way so they comprimised.
My son's middle name is after my eldest cousin who died - but somehow it fitted him perfectly he is Lewis Steven.
However my little girl doesnt have one as her first name is double barrelled, she is Ella-Mai. We thought a middle name for her would be too much of a mouthfull.

My 3 kids have very ordinary first names that were deliberately picked so they couldn't be shortened. They all have more exotic middle names. We did this so that if they wanted a more unusual first name when they were older, they could use their middle names.
Mr O has FOUR christian names - his mother had delusions of grandeur.
My mum was convinced she was expecting a boy and when I was born she had no girls names in mind. There were 2 other baby girls on the ward and, having no imagination, she named me after them. It's lucky for me there were other babies on the ward. If mum had been alone and looked around for inspiration, I could have been christened Wash Handbasin or No Smoking!
