Shall I take his surname?
30 Answers
Shall i take my fiance's surname? It's Pratt. Or shall I keep my own which is very nice indeed. I like the idea of changing my name when I get married but really not sure if I can go the rest of my life with Pratt as a surname. I've suggested that we take his Mother's maiden name as a compromise but he's not too keen. What shall I do?!

Does he like his surname? It is quite fashionable nowadays for men to take the females surname, it depends how keen he is on keeping his family name.
Would your surname sound alright double-barrelled with Pratt? That could be your only option.

Yes, I do see your point, it is one of those surnames people make jokes about. You do not say what your maiden name is, might we ask. I would be willing to take on the name of a girl I wanted to marry, but couldn't (Amanda Colley of Basingstoke take note), I would be quite honoured to do this if my name was Pratt. However, my surname is very patriotic, and is Britton, so you could always marry me if you want a good surname?
123everton, my other half is pretty chuffed with your responses. My surname is actually Jones, so funny you should say that Beads!! I know that this being our biggest problem makes me actually quite lucky... but... i've witnessed the taunts he & his brothers receive on a regular basis and i think it would be asking for trouble actually choosing to take that name. However, can you get married and not take your husbands name?!
What name you gonna give the kids? The problem(?) you have is the name Pratt. The only answer is to completely dissassociate your childs' heritage, why?
It does'nt matter if he's Pratt-Jones or Jones-Pratt it's still going to be Pratt.
Would you love your child any less if it was called Pratt, of course not. Do you love him any less because he's called Pratt, of course not. Did his mother love her kids less because they were called Pratt, of course not.
A rose by any other name.
Seriously get over it.
