Hi AJ, is that couple of hundred per week or per month?

The best thing you can do is work out how much you need to have a one bedroom flat. Check out how much one costs per month in your area, the add on the other bills such as council tax, gas, electric, water and food. Then make a list of all your incomings and outgoings you have already and see if wht you are left with will cover what you need.

Dont forget though that, when moving into your own place, there will be one off payments too such as deposit, any furniture you may need and a TV licence.
or if a 1 bedroomed flat is out of your reach, lower your sights a bit and look at studios/bedsits/shares
get her preg and get a council flat
So glad i work my a**e off to pay my taxes!
You could put your names down on a housing list, but might have to wait a long time before you were offered anything. Your best bet's to work hard and save as much as you can - either as a house deposit if you intend to buy, or as the deposit on a privately-rented property. Best of luck. I know it's hard for young couples these days.
In addition to the other siggestions, have you had a look if you'd be entitled to any housing benefit? Depending on what you're earning, this can help towards your rent so you'd have a bit more money for bills.
