giving dogs tablets

Does anyone know wherabouts I can buy dog biscuits or treats with the hollow centres which are used for putting tablets in to feed to the dog. Many thanks.

Have you tried coating the tablet with peanut butter?

Failing that, I used to open my dogs mouth and aim the tablet as far back down her mouth as possible and she had no choice but to swallow it

as a follow up to p k's suggestion -hold the dogs head up,keep your hand on its mouth so as it is kept closed- gently rub its throat with other hand + it should swallow it

hide the tablets inside soft centre chocolates...works a treat...and yes yes yes ,i know you're not supposed to give doggies chocolate but they love a little one now and again!

I have always done it like pink and beejay , if you put it right at the back and then when you do what beejay says , it usually , well always when I've tried it , swallows it . Even inside a treat , some dogs will manage to eat the treat and leave or spit out the tablet untouched .

Vet surgeries sell hollow meaty gel treats designed for you to put medication in.

No need to panic - put the tablet inside a litle ball of corned beef. Throw a couple of placebos up in the air first of all - and the real one. I've never known it to fail.

I think there are some called trojans. Pets at home used to do them but I can't find them anymore in their stores. Our dog needs 24 tablets and capsules a day to control his epilepsy, and I usually put them in some bread and mould it around the tabs

Do "nice treat, nasty treat, nice treat". Give them a good bit first so they don't realise what's going on, then the one with the tablet, while holding the last nice one so they can see it (encourages them to just eat the tablet without thinking about it), then give them a nice treat for being good!

they do incline to spit the tablet out. I just put mine to the back of the throat and rub gently on his throat. I have got to laugh as mine pretended to swallow and up came the tablet. That was funny, however it is the best method. As eventually the tablet will melt.

Ben, my Dobermann is 10 and has bad arthritis and can sense a pill at three miles!!!! Sliced ham works a treat. Just wrap the tablet in the ham - oh watch your fingers! Pate on bread is also good. Never hide in a chocolate as this will slowly oison them.
