.I think i have found what i am looking for on Ancestry .com but i dont have a credit card . What can i do?
I have tried other sites but the information i want does not appear to be on these.

How can i obtain a death certificate when i dont know the date of the persons death?

If it is in England ot wales and you have found the death in the GRO Index it will give a place name next to the entry, all you need is that place name, the persons name at death, and which quarter and year, then send to the register office that covers that distrcit, google say, Liverpool Register Office, and the name addy and phone number comes up, the certified copy will cost �7 plus postage, if you live near the register office, just acll in with the details and they will do a copy for you in an hour or so

all you get on ancestry are the indexes made up from the registers, you can order acopy of a certificate from the site, but it is expensive.
Death registrations were done at the local register office within the district the person died in, if you have any search probs let me know, I can probably find stuff quicker.

Hello Dot, I dont think we have "spoken" before.
The only information i have is the persons dob and birthplace,we didnt know this person exsisted till a few years ago ,and i thought i would try and solve the mystery somehow!

Have you not found their death then? Have you anything to go on? Like a gravestone? or is it along time ago?

no i have looked through all records cannot find anything.
so perhaps i should try adoption files then?

dot ,dob 31/12/1924 birth registered in sleford lincs 1925 thats all the info i have

what was the surname? and have you any clue from any source in the family as to when or where they may have dies? what sort of age, and if it is a female, would they bhave had a different married surname

name is john m mckeown thats all the info we have got.
we found it on my grandmothers passport when she died.

I have just found and ordered a birth certificate to give to my father,i dont know if there will be any more information on that which would help in the present search,
Because if we cant find a death cert. are we to assume hes still alive?

Yes Dot,that was my grandmothers maiden name

well that was the maiden name of John McKeowens mother, so either she married a McKowen or one of her sisters did, i can find the marriage probably

grandmothers name was dorothea lilian maslin,she married edward mckeown,but how does that help find out if john is dead or alive?

Dorothea L Maslin married Edward T Mckeown at Lincon in the last quarter of 1922 ref 7a 1218

Well it creates a set of confirming details for when you find out one way or the other, you may need to look for a death of edward t mckeown between late 1924 and the date of her later marriage, have you found any other children registered like John, was he the only child she had with Edward? If edward died and left her with a small child she may have had the child adopted, there is no regicter for that til 1928 and then it doesn't help generally. It may be possible that edward is buried in Linconshire somewhere and that his son is buried there too, or owns the grave? There are 3 john mckeowns on 192.com
