My friends neice who was only 16 died recently after a short illness.

He has been asked to do a reading/prayer at her funeral next week. He is struggling to come up with a suitable prayer and I was hoping that someone on AB could tell me of any websites where we could find something appropriate.

Thank you.

I'm not I'm not sure how religious your friend is and would want a prayer, but I always think this poem is very good:

'Do not stand by my grave and weep'

How about this

You can shed tears that she is gone,
Or you can smile because she lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back,
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared,
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on,
You can cry and close your mind be empty and turn your back,
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

what about reciting this:

Seems like yesterday we used to rock the show
I laced the track, you locked the flow
So far from hangin on the block for dough
Notorious, they got to know that
Life aint always what it seem to be (uh-uh)
Words cant express what you mean to me
Even though youre gone, we still a team
Through your family, Ill fulfill your dream (thats right)
In the future, cant wait to see
If you open up the gates for me
Reminisce some time, the night they took my friend (uh-huh)
Try to black it out, but it plays again
When its real, feelings hard to conceal
Cant imagine all the pain I feel
Give anything to hear half your breath (half your breath)
I know you still living your life, after death

Every step I take, every move I make
Every single day, every time I pray
Ill be missing you
Thinkin of the day, when you went away
What a life to take, what a bond to break
Ill be missing you

Its kinda hard with you not around (yeah)
Know you in heaven smilin down (eheh)
Watchin us while we pray for you
Every day we pray for you
Til the day we meet again
In my heart is where Ill keep you friend
Memories give me the strength I need (uh-huh) to proceed
Strength I need to believe
My thoughts big I just cant define (cant define)
Wish I could turn back the hands of time
Us in the 6, shop for new clothes and kicks
You and me taking flicks
Makin hits, stages they receive you on
I still cant believe youre gone (cant believe youre gone)
Give anything to hear half your breath (half your breath)
I know you still living youre life, after death
we miss you big
THE DAY GOD CALLED YOU HOME

God looked around his garden and found an empty place.
He then looked down upon His earth and saw your loving face.
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
His garden must be beautiful,he always picks the best.
He knew that you were suffering,He knew you were in pain.
And knew that you would never get well on earth again.
He saw your path was difficult,so he closed your tired eyes.
He whispered to you "peace be thine" and gave you wings to fly.
When we saw you sleeping so calm and free of pain,
We would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again.
You've left us precious memories, your love will be our guide,
You'll always be in our hearts, and always by our side.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

COME WITH ME

God saw that you were suffering
And a cure was not to be,
So he put his arms around you
And whispered,
"Come with me'
Through tear filled eyes
We watched you suffer
And slowly fade away
Although we loved you deeply
We could not make you stay
A golden heart stopped beating
A hard working smile, put to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
