Some people get married in diving gear under water!! It depends on whether you want to stay traditional and have bridesmaids and a best man etc, which means the bestman and chief brodesmaid are the witnesses that sign the register, or whether you have a favourite hobby that you can bring into it, like Star Trek, Country & Western, football etc, it depends on the venue as any hotel will pretty much accomodate any theme if you are paying their prices, except maybe a naturist theme, the you might have to go to a specific naturist resort.

You've lost me with the comment about registration office and vote.
If you're referring to a marriage at the Registrar's office - yes, it is a shorter ceremony than a church wedding. You can wear whatever you want. I've been to a wedding where the bride & groom wore matching jeans & t-shirts, another where the bride & groom dressed as Goths and a recent wedding where the bride & groom wore the full monty - meringue dress, top hat & tails etc.

You wear what you want for both the appointment and on your wedding day. I wore my jeans to the first appointment and a full bridal dress and hubbie wore his kilt. We had 3 bridesmaids and a page boy. You can wear what you want and have who you want. We pick the registars office as we are different religons and neither one of us practice them.
