Taking a baby to Lanzarote

My son will be 6 months old when we go to Lanzarote next month so still needs milk making up and his bottles sterilising.

I have read that the water is not suitable for drinking but you also have to be careful of bottled water because of the mineral content.

Has anyone ever been with a baby, if so do you know which water will be safe for him?

Also any tips for sterilising would be greatly appreciated!

i dno

but if u boil the water, its probably safer because the germs are killed

thats the only thing i can think of

try not 2 come bak with a burnt baby, lol :)
Whenever i went away when mine were small, I used to buy disposable pre-sterilised bottles and cartons of ready made milk. It doesn't work out cheap, but it saves any hassle.
Did you not think of this when you booked the holiday? Or did you just fancy your two weeks in the sun as always and see no reason why a baby should change your life in any way?
take disposable bottles from boots and readymade milk
take enough for a week giving time to buy stuff there if ur going for 2 weeks

Thanks for the lectures but I don't have to explain my reasons for going on holiday to anyone!

We are getting him a sunshade that covers the full pushchair and a pop up tent both are SPF 50+

Will look into the sterile bottles, thanks.
I took my daughter to Florida when she was 5 months old and it was fine. I asked the health visitor for some advice and her advice was its better to take them at this age theyre not so much trouble! lol. She also said they do have babies out there you know! Obviously the main thing is keeping them out of the sun which youre already aware of! They do good suncreams for babies. If I remember rightly (as my daughters 5 now) im sure we used bottled water but we still boiled it first
Hi missspeedy - blimey you ask for advice and get lectured - bloomin cheek eh? Don't worry too much about using bottled water, we had to use it for a few months when our (private) water supply was a bit iffy and the little fella was fine. If you have access to a micro (is it self catering?) you get micro bags which are pretty good or boiling up stuff on hobb or cold water sterilisation (if you can find plastic tub) Have a fab time. x
People aren't lecturing, hun. It's just a fact. Babies born over here just aren't used to the dry heat of the Canaries, which can make such a young child very uncomfortable. The times I've heard parents complaining that they've spent all their holidays caring for a crying or poorly baby, are too many to mention, but for those who go anyway, the advice about ready-made milk's fine, and I'm sure that missspeedy'll protect her child from the sun.
Hi, we travelled with our chidlren when young. Both were still breastfed at 6 months - so much easier. When they were a bit older we used cartons of ready-made up mik, even in this country becasue ot was a lot easier. With my second child I never bothered with borttles or with sterilising, hust put the milh stright in a feeder cup with spout, then made sure I washed it out thoroughly with boiling water. I could never see the point of all that sterilising - I did it for my first because I thought I should, but then realised he was crawling round the floor putting everything in his mouth anyway! If you child will drink form a feeder cup I'd say do that, as they are so much easier to clean and whetehr you're in a hotel or self-catering you'll have access to a kettle. Have a good holiday.
If no air con in bedroom use an electric fan but not aimed directly at baby, just to move the air a bit at night. My baby was bought up in this heat and survived, oh and make sure you have loose pure soft cotton for baby to wear.
Miss Speedy, you can use spring water from a bottle - make sure it has eau de source on it.
At a push you can use Evian but as long as the sodium content is below 7 you should be OK - Do NOT BOIL mineral water! You can however boil spring water; the uncarbonated kind
