Passport Dilema

Ok, so I like in the UK and am planning on travelling to the U.S.
I need a passport.
I did have a 'group' passport when I was about 10 years old, but I have no idea whether that counts as anything... or whether it was just a temporary thing that could be used for that trip only? It was used for a school trip to France many years ago and it contained ALL the school pupil's details.
So, the question is, do I apply for a 'first' passport?
Or do I 'renew' that group passport (I don't even think it exists any more and have no idea how I'd get hold of it)
I would have thought that I'd have to apply for a 'first' passport... but I don't know.

the group passport would have been for that trip only - you will need to apply for your first full passport

As Bednobs indicates, you have never held a passport. Your school held one, with your name on it, but that doesn't count as 'your' passport. (I've got several old group passports, as mementoes of my teaching days. They were valid just for specific trips).

Remember to allow plenty of time for your passport application because all applicants for a first passport now have to attend a passport centre for interview. Full information can be found here:
