fully engaged, how long too wait? baby #3

Went to the hospital the other night and had a trace done cos i'm due a due birth and the MW wanted to know for sure which way bubs was and they couldn't work it out while on the machine the MW asked if i was having pains...I said no and she said according to the trace machine you are, then looked back at my old notes and seen that both times i've only come to hospital when i've been 7cm cos up to that point i've not felt anything, so she said maybe yr in labour but can't feel it... Then i had a scan and baby was completely locked in, when dp asked if that meant i was gonna go early she shook her head and said not really you could go over...I'm 36+4.
I'm confused now cos how can a machine show pains and baby be fully engaged but still have weeks left? Has anyone else had this, i read my notes when i left and it said i was having accerations (sp).

not wanting to make you feel bad but with my first i was having painless contraction s every 5 mins from about 36 weeks and baby was fully engaged from 37 weeks. BUT he wasnt in the correct position so the contractions did nothing as his head wasnt pushed correctly aginst my cervix. This meant that i finally gave birth after my waters were broken for me at 42+3 (17 days over due date)

With my second, i had the painless contractions for 3 weeks before she was finally born at 40+4 (the pains only started less than 2 hours before she was born)

Mine were contractions, rather than braxton hicks, they were regular and 24 hours a day and showed on traces.

Try and get baby to the right position. One way is to sit astride a dining chair but facing the back. This tilts the pelvis. DO NOT try if you have SPD or anything,
