dog frightened of the wind?

My 4 years old, collie crossdog, has become very restless at night, when it is windy. She use to sleep right through, and never disturb us, but now keeps pouring us to wake us up, or wanting to jump on the bed, as if she is frightened? The wind has never bothered her before, has anyone any advice, or had a similar problem?

Just a suggestion, but has anything changed locally to alter the sound of the wind.Dogs hear in different ranges of frequencies to humans so she might be upset by a sound you cann't even hear. For example Max my GSD will sit and howl if I have certain ring tones on my mobile, yet totally ignore others

Collies are very sensitive and intelligent - something has changed to disturb her - banging window, rattling tile, wind noise around the house, branch tapping on window - anything and probably you can't hear it -she wants reassurance which is why she comes to you - the pack leader. Really think hard if anything has changed, can be something as simple as the CHeating or whatever coming on at a different time although if it only happens on windy nights that's unlikely. Fraid you just going to keep trying until you find out what it is. Shame, she's obviously distressed.

have you tried leaving the radio on so she cant hear the wind so much

Hi - I used to have a great fear of the wind. A comment about work needing to be done on our roof immediately prior to a boxing day of destructive gales and for about a year I was in constant terror of the wind.

The wind seems to be at its most scary at this time of year - I don't know why. No doubt due to air pressure etc. These days I barely hear it but when you have it in your head that it is a 'bad' thing it is amazing how many creaking sounds you can hear in the house. Your poor wee dog is living with a vicious cycle of terror.

I wish I could wave a magic wand to end the fear - maybe once the weather changes things will improve.
