Deodorant!
10 Answers
My eight-year-old daughter sometimes gets a bit whiify under her armpits. Will it be ok for her to use deodorant? And if so, which do you think is the best one?
I have explained to her about hygiene, and that as she is getting older she needs to be more aware and to start washing her armpits daily. She is absolutely fine with this but I wasn't sure if she is too young.
Any advice would appreciated.

If she's getting a bit whiffy it's certainly time to start using deodorant. My daughter started sometime about that age - she was very worried going on a school holiday that she would be the only one, only to find that all her friends were also using.
I would recommend that she use a roll on or cream type, rather than a spray.

If she's washing her underarms regularly and is still whiffy then a deodorant will deal with the problem.
I'd suggest you buy her a gentle roll on deodorant and NOT an aerosol. Kids tend to go OTT with aerosols. A few years ago one of my nephews went so overboard with a can of Lynx he ended up in hospital after accidentally inhaling too much of the stuff.

By all means a deoderant, an anti-perspirant should be Ok if it is a mild one like 'Dove'.
Do stress to her that this is as well as washing thoroughly, not instead of.
Sweat does not smell. Stale sweat allows bacteria to breed, and that is what causes the odour, so if she washes morning and night, and rolls on a little deoderant, she should be fine.

I would use a natural deodorant like the one they sell at http://www.teendeodorant.com
