the pill and getting spots
3 Answers
I went on the pill as a teenager due to bad spots on my face, I have a history in the family of bad achne even my mum has it in her 50's.
I was on dianette first and then 7 years later got changed to micro-something as they said dianette wasn't used anymore? Which is weird because I see someone else asking about being given to them?
Anyway about a year or two ago after ready how the pill can make people put weight on (increased hunger) and also feel ill and depressed, having not felt well for years and with no sex life I thought I would quit taking the pill and see if I felt better. Plus the 6 monthly blood pressure check to take the pill I couldnt easy attend with my busy life style I dont even go to the doctor not in years if it wasnt for the blood pressure checks.
I seem ok I dont really think there has been a huge change in my overall health and well being. But my spots and quite bad at the moment.
Does the pill really help with spots, would it be better to go back on the pill, or are there other spot products, plus will going back on the pill for the first time in two years suddenly make me put tons of weight on??
Thanks in advance

What you have to remember though is that the pill affects different people in different ways, I have been on Dianette (which they do still give out by the way) and although it cleared up my acne, it practically crippled me for the 12 months I was on it. I had excrutiating back, leg and muscle pain and my hair started falling out, but I didn't put on an ounce of weight.
I then went on Microgynon, which again kept the spots away, but I still got leg pain.
I'm now on Yasmin, good for spots and I don't really have any side effects other than a bit of leg pain when I haven't done any exercise. Maybe you should give this a try?
I guess it just depends on your body type as to whether you put on weight or not...

You said you get spots, and so did your mum.
Have you ever heard of PCOS? (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)?
I had similar symptoms to you - adult spots and weight problems. I also found that when I came off the pill, my periods got very infrequent and irregular.
Other symptoms of PCOS - weight probs, excess body or facial hair, acne, thinning hair on the head, mood swings, lack of periods, or very irregular periods.
Google it - I get a feeling you might have the condition.

PS - there are treatments for it, if that's what you have.
