As I'm her 'godfather' will I have to do anything at my nieces commonion? We're, me especially, not 'religious' as such but my sister in law is catholic in faith.

As you, I'm godfather to my neice and at her Communion, we had no active role in the ceremony. It was the kids who do all of the participation....We just go to the party afterwards!

Nice one.
You don't need to do anything in terms of the actual ceremony, and no-one will know you areher godfather, apart from your family. However, even though you arn't necessarily a "practising" catholic it will be nice for you to make a point of it being special, by getting her a card with "to my god daughter" and maybe buying her some nice rosary beads or a cross and chain, which are a little bit more special than some of the tackier soveniers. She will keep them forever and it marks the point, that you have remembered your "vows" as a godfather. There are some lovely rosary beads around that girls and women admire, even if they arn't religious. Have a great day, and make sure you sing.
If you don't know where your local "catholic shop" is try ebay, you might get better choice online anyway to be honest.
It goes without saying (hopefully) don't go for the plastic pete docherty/goth beckham ones!

A gift goes without saying, but I don't sing in church...
Thats a shame, cos they are usually quite nice tunes they pick for kids communion masses. I defy you to not have one fleeting thought while your there that you would like to be singing! enjoy anyway.
