we used last minute.com - got cheap tickets for Woman in Black (19.50 instead of 39) and Sound of Music (closed now but I paid 10 for what ended up 50 tickets)
There used to be a stall in Leicester Square which sold tickets very cheaply for performances that same night. Don't know if it's still there though. Maybe another ABer will be able to advise. Happy anniversary for Saturday.
I think you will find it difficult to get cheaper theatre tickets for a Saturday night.

Saturday is the one "sell out" night for most theatres and if they do give discounts it is likely to be for Monday to Thursday (or maybe Friday).

Oliver, for example, is sold out on a Saturday night till about September, so no need for them to give discounts.

I think the booth in Leicester Square is still there, but I understand the queues can build up very quickly unles you get there early.
Try to find a play that is coming to the end of its run.

If a show is finishing it means that those that want to see it have done so, so they may be selling discount tickets to fill the theatre for its last few days or weeks.
I have had a quick look at some of the London plays on lastminute.com and they ALL say "except Saturday evenings".

So as I said, you may find it difficult to get a discount on a Saturday evening.

thanks everyone,we are there till tuesday so i could try for monday night, will try leicester square route.
On the actual day (including Saturday) go to the TKTS booth in Leicester Square - you'll see alist of all the shows they have for that afternoon (matinees) and that evening. All will be half-price unless otherwise marked. Obviously they don't have all shows, especially 'tourist 'shows' such as Wicked, Hairspray etc. But you'll find the best selection there, divided into drama, comedy, musical - and they're totally reputable.
The area around Leicester Square is full of ticket agencies but the only one actually in the square is, as Quizmonkey states, TKTS. The booth is run the Society of London Theatre (which represents all of the major West End theatres, and many others). It's the only reputable source of cheap tickets (other than websites like LastMinute.com)

This link is updated daily, to show what's currently on offer at TKTS:

The 'spoof' version of The Thirty Nine Steps is something I'd like to see (and for which cheap tickets are usually available) as all of the reviews describe it as a fun evening out:
