need some help finding my customers (painter n decorator)
hi, I have been in the painting and decorating sector for years working for companys as a sub contractor. I now am in a stage in my life where I want to be my own boss.
Problem is I am having trouble finding the custom. I have tried leaflets and I have a web site but still not much work is coming in....I need help and advice
......also, am thinking of finding a partner, could I advertise for someone?

I work with a partner, but then we've been friends for over 30 years (oh my god)....... the best reason for going in with someone would be if they have plenty of work, and need a hand to cope with it. Otherwise, I would certainly advise keeping up with any subbie work that is available. But, in the current difficulties, you're probably going to find more work on your own account (eventually).
I know plently of guys who have taken your decision, and never regretted it.
It's always been a truism in decorating, that, if you are seen painting the outside of someone's house........ inevitably, you'll be asked to work your way down the whole street ........... honestly :o)
It's the perfect time of year for outside work. Web sites are totally irrelevant at our level..... really ........ keep the local fliers going through letterboxes............ another good one is to talk to local shop and business owners ....... make them an offer they can't refuse ......... they claim it against tax you see :o)
Get yourself seen doing a good job......... the rest will follow.
Good luck to you.

Have you looked at MyHammer.co.uk?
It works in 2 ways, you can either bid for jobs that people post on the site, then gain a reputation and ratings by doing good work.
You can also register on the site as a supplier of your trade.
We have had work done by posting work on the site and had a good experience with the tradesmen
Good Luck.
