My baby is due in December :o) My fella and I were chatting about what names/nicknames we will give our grandparents and parents to make life easier as our son/daughter will have in total 10 grandparents :o) :o) Just wondering if anyone else's children has this many.
I guess so, and also i suppose people are living longer now than when my g'parents were young. My nan was married with two kiddies by my age and I think they had just the one grandparent around. Goes to show how its changed over not that many years.
Divorce plays a part also - thats why were have so many for our small person. Both our parents are divorced and re-married, so just from that we have 8!! Shame really
grandad vibra doesn't sopund too pleasant - sorry vibra if you read this hehe
yeah luckily we've covered most of them, my mother and s.father live in Greece and Jon's (my partner) father and s. mother live in Cyprus so those gave easy nicknames :o)
My poor kids are the opposite - both their grandads died before they were born (well when my Dad died my eldest was a few weeks old) and one Granny died when they were toddlers so they only have my Mum who will be 76 this month and they are still only 9 and 8. One of older brothers is a grandad to 3 and his grandkids call him "G" - he is 52 and thought he was a bit young to be Grandad. Our family is really spaced out now as my older brothers married and had kids fairly young and I am the youngest and had mine quite late. I think in this modern world, there is nothing wrong with children jsut using their granparents actual names rather than using all these made up titles - perhaps keep the Grandad, grandma, Nana and Papa for the oldest generation.
yeah thata thought, but his Mother and s. father are already g'parents and are called grandad and nanny - it would make sense to keep them the same for our child. His nan is called nanny Eileen by my neice so we'll use that too. my grandparents on fathers side are sorted as nana and bootsale grandad. All i am stuck with is my grandad on the Isle of Wight. Any ideas??
our other nan was 'nan round the bend' as she lived round the corner then she moved to other side of an embankment so she was 'nan over the top' or over the hill. lol
My grand-daughter, Freya, who is two and a half, has called me "Git" every since she could talk. I think she means it to come out as "Grandad" but only gets as far as the "G" with "it" on the end. Everybody finds it absolutely hilarious, especially when we're out in public and she wants to draw my attention to something with a shouted "GIT!" but I think its really sweet!
I was 40 when my daughter had my first grandson and at that age, I didn't really want to be a grandmother as it made me feel really old! I wanted my grandchildren to call me by my actual name, but my daughter wasn't having any of it, so I am "nan" to my granchildren. I don't really like it, but hey ho.....................
