Someone I work with has anounced he's to become a great great grandad. As his mum is still alive this obviously adds another great to the equation. TBH I've never heard of anyone getting to this generation. Has anyone else heard of this happening?

Not exactly impossible is it - he could be 65 (child - 49, grandchild -33, great grandchild - 17, baby - 0. for example.
In my family I am 43, only one parent alive, my husband is 48 - no parents alive, my kids are 9 and 8 and have only ever had 1 grandparent :o(.
Not likely our family will ever get near those kind of generations for a long long time.

If he is in his mid-late 60s, assuming he had a child when he was late teens. that child would be 40ish, if that child had a child in their teens and the child, his granchild, is 16 or so, and having a baby, that is his great grandchild, If he were in his 80s i could see it being possible, but probably not whilst he is in his 60s, his mum would be a great great grandma though.
