Looby, no disrespect but are you a religous person, if not why a christening? no child has to be christened, none of mine were, its usuall done because it's "the done thing" its usually very hypocritical and the "god parents" actually never perform any function after this event. Ive attended Christenings and when I see who the God parents are I want to scream!! I would say that 75% of Christenings are hypocrytical and those children will not be brought up in a christian style up bringing. Im an Atheist as you may have guessed!
First of all you need to know into what religion you want your little boy baptised into (Church of England, Catholic, Presbytarian etc) then get an appointment with your local vicar, priest or elder. He/She will explain it all to you.
In C of E a boy often has two god-fathers and one god-mother.
squarebear and ratter; it doesn't mean because you're not a religious person you shouldn't baptise your child. looby may feel she's missed out on something by not being brought up in a religious family or she just might want her little boy to get into a local religious school.

Yes, I do ratter but I know a few people who've had their children baptised at a later age so they can do just that (put into catholic schools for better discipline and a better level of education). If the priest accepts and the school accepts, why not? I think it's worse a (non-believing) couple getting married in church just cos it looks nicer than a register office...
My reasons for getting him christened is because thats what i feel should happen.. I was christened as was every other relative in my family and i want to keep the tradition.. Im not very religous but i am spiritual and would like my son to be brought up with godparents that play a role in his life... I just have not had the chance to get him christened before now to be honest as he has been going through hospital appointments finally getting a diagnosis this year and I have been going through court cases against my violent ex.. Which after 3 years has finally ended.
Not that i should have to clarify my reasons for wanting my son to be christened but after all this it would be nice too and i feel it is the right time to do it now.
Thankyou for all your advice

Well I got married in a church the first time I married actually, and I done it that way because it was a beautiful place to get married ans so much nicer than a registry office. The difference being, I needed a legal document of marriage, the promises and vows I said to my wife to be were sincere the pledges to God were just to get the licence, I wasn't exactly worried about being struck down, OK so I disrespected a non existent god to get my marriage certificate and for my wife to have a dream wedding.
I don't see it as being hypocritical, I just needed a marriage certificate, I just took the pee out of religion, I don't have a problem with that. A Christening is in no way a legal anything and does not need to be undertaken for any reason.
