hi i own a semi detached house, my in laws own the house next door, which they have been renting. we wish to rent it and knock through a wall so we can use bedrooms/bathroom without having to go outside. we will still pay bills as if 2 seperate homes. does anyone know if ok to do this and what the legal minimum rent is, as inlaws don't really want any payment x

your bedrooms and bathroom are outside??
I think maybe bentley means making it into one house type of thing - two properties with an adjoining door so that they don't have to go out the door of one and in the door of another to access other rooms.
what happens if you stop renting it? - surely the new configuration with de-value the property.
I also thing the mortgage companies and insurance companies would have something to say about this, and Council Tax would need recalculating as it would be one big property in effect.

However, to answer your question, there is no such thing as legal minimum rent, you can pay whatever the owner is happy to agree with you.
