I have just had a frantic call of hubby - to cut a long story short

due to fraud on his account (and problems with bank) he changed accounts to A&L and they were meant to change all his DD's over. he was extremly suprised to have been tracked down to work by the CSA who have told him they have had no payments for some time and are making him pay £600 lump sum! and £200 per month (on top of the £150 he already pays) until its paid off - there is no way he can afford this - and we wont be able to pay our own bills... please dont hate me, i know his child is due money thats not the question, he just cant afford it ...

Where do they plan on taking this money from? How much does he owe?
If he has been paying £150 a month how did he get to owe them money? How does he pay this amount?

Hi OJ - he pays it by DD, but as i said due to a switch over with bank, they have failed to transfer all DD's over. so he thought it had been paid - when it hadn't, he only knew when he got a phone call today.
-- answer removed --
First things first, contact the bank and ask if they have been paying it.
I don't think they'll be that sympathetic.

Did it not occur to him that he appeared to be about £150 a month better off..........?
That's why I don't think they'll be sympathetic Jack...

hi red - its not my bank account, its hubbys, and looks like he didnt check the DDs - but the A&L had some sort of DD guarentee thing (as part of the incentive to move accounts) and said that ALL DD's would be changed over :( have no idea how long its been missed for... waiting for him to come home to get full story ..
if they are asking for £600 that means he has missed it for atleast 4 months, surely in 4 months you've checked your statements or as another post says, noticed that you have been £150 better off each month
When did he change bank accounts? That'll give you an idea..
Dan...they are asking £600 lump sum and an extra £200 per month so it looks like it was going on much longer than a few months..

accounts changed in april - he doesnt check statements for that account as its his bill account :( the money was there which is how he has just paid the £600 lump sum ... but i agree, unsure of why they are asking for more arrears ... am waiting for full story.

thanks anyways peeps x
Perhaps A&L could be persuaded to offer him a preferential rate overdraft to help him over this bump created, in part, by them..............
ouch, they will not have sympathy at all

Ignorance is no defence I'm afraid and if the DD's have not been going out then the £600 should still be in the bank, shouldn't it? You will have to make sure there is that amount in there ready for them to take - arrange an overdraft, the bank may be sympathetic towards you because it appears to be their mistake, the CSA won't be and you could end up with a long list of bank charges when you have a returned DD and you will sill owe the money anyway alongside huge bank charges
That's 7 months. If the £600 was there shouldn't the rest be there?
if it's just his bill payment account, the money should be in there then so he can just pay it surely?
bdenobs, the bank appear to have not included this DD in the transfer of their bank a/c
Yes...but if he uses that account for bills only and that one is not being taken out then there should be surplus money in it.
absolutely ummm, which is what I said in my longer reply above
