My 6yr old asked me yesterday. She will be 7 in June so I said yes she could have it done for her birthday or save up her pocket money if she wants it doing earlier. My mum said shes too young but shes such a wimp with pain I doubt she would dare go through with it anyway! Is 6 too young?

Well wasnt expecting so many replies thank you! She hasnt mentioned it since so neither will I but if she is determined she wants them doing I think I will let her.
Like I said she is a complete wimp so watching someone else have it done is a good idea. I think they do children's ears at the same time now anyway dont they?
Oh and I also hate babies and toddlers ears being pierced too. To the person who said it looks chavvy I do actually know what you mean and I have thought that myself sometimes too. But not with all children, if they look well dressed and not scrubby I think its ok lol.
fair enough, cazzz.

I disagree with those people saying 'If she's old enough to ask she's old enough to have it.' Do you apply that to everything a six-year-old asks for? Or don't parents know how to say No these days?
From personal experience, I wish my mum had chosen to pierce my ears when I was really young. All through primary school I wished that I could wear nice earings but I was always too scared! lol.. I eventually got them pierced when I was 15 and I now have different ones in everyday! Love it :)
How old?

11 when they reach high school
Yes.
I agree with your disagreement jno ;)
I think 7 is way, way, too young, just my oppinion :)
one of the most awful things i have seen, was whilst in a Claire's accessory shop.
A little girl of around 4 went in to have her ears pierced, she looked nervous.
So the shop assistant sat her on a high stool and said she could have both ears done at the same time, she would do one and her colleague would pierce the other on the count of three. The child's mother stood by the side , and on three, the girl leapt of the stool with one of the ear guns still in her ear and a badly torn ear. For as long as i live i will never forget it awful ;0(
I think 16 is a good age...hate to see children with pierced ears, yes I think it looks common (my opinion).
When they can pay for it.

Hi zzxxee - you ok ?
hi tambo im good thanks x
7 is good My youngest was about 6 when her elder sister who was 15 at the time took her to get her ears pierced. First one went ok then she screamed and performed. eventually she had the second one done
had mine done at 13.
18
No younger than 16, just doesn't seem right on little children.
I had mine done as a baby in Cyprus many moons ago. Personally, I wouldn't get it done until they are into their teens.
I finally let the daughter have hers pierced when she was 14.
You need to consider school rules - both in her primary and any future secondary. My school does not allow jewellery of any kind at all.
In my view piercing a child's flesh is a form of abuse and should be outlawed.
And, just to add...

Any student wearing jewellery is asked to remove it and if they cannot or will not, they will be isolated from the remaindedr of the school for the day - until it can be remnoved at home in the even, or sent home at the time unmtil removed.
