Persil
Persil is one of the top laundry brands in the UK. Through innovation and research Persil has lead the way in the washing detergent industry. Some of their products include a powder, liquigel, "Small and Mighty" highly concentrated liquid detergent, liquid capsules and tablets. It is sold in biological, non-biological and colour care formulations.
In 1903 Professor Herman Giessler and Dr Herman Bauer from Stuttgart produced the world's first soap powder with a bleaching agent – Persil. It was launched in the UK in 1909 as the 'Amazing Oxygen Washer' the first commercially available laundry detergent. The detergent was revolutionary as it played a major role in abolishing ‘wash day’ at the turn of the century which radically changed women’s roles and their working week.
From the mid 1920s Persil went on the road demonstrating results to entire neighbourhoods at a time. The 33ft caravan was kitted-out with everything from wash boilers to electric irons. In 1998 and 2000, Persil again changed the laundry market with the very first tablets and capsules - making washing clothes even more convenient.
Persil was the first laundry detergent to feature a man in their TV advertising. It is also the officially recommended detergent for Miele washing machines in Canada and the United States. The name is derived from two of its original ingredients, perborate and silicate.
