The Mint, quizmania etc!

Due to not being able to sleep last night I ended up watching The Mint (ITV1) until 4.30am!

Am I right in thinking they make most of the answers up?? Last night the word was 'high' and you had to think what went with it e.g: high street!

Now after 4 and a half hours of presenters talking about themselves and other mundane things they had to reveal the top answers as nobody had got them, the answers were:

high shod???

high mettle???

And I'm sure they said hightle???

Where do they get these answers and more importantly, why do people waste money phoning in? I've seen a few of the quizmania shows too and they're just as baffling with the answers, they certainly don't like making things simple do they?

kate1976, its amazing what cr*p you will watch when you can't sleep. This has been touched on before, basically it is a complete rip off, hopefully you can open this link. ultimately the top answers are so obscure that it is only luck if you get it right.

haha when me and my friend are up we watch it!! we have a right laugh...the last show of the mint we watched was day____ n the answers wer day owl day wtaer and day gang....its stupid but fun to take the p!ss out of ...we watched quizmaniaand couldnt stand it ...too many sounds and things....we are really sad!!1 when whatever we are wtahcing finishes we turn over for 15-20 minutes and then go to bed!!! xxxx

PinkFlower I hate watching it but once I've started I have to carry on with it to see what stupid answers they come up with!!

I'm going through a patch of not being tired at all til really late, so I quite often am looking for something to watch in the early hours....The Mint and Quizmania both annoy me loads - takes so long just for one person to get an answer right. The only phone in quiz show I sadly don't mind watching is Pop The Q on channel 21 (TMF I think...).

I didn't think people did really phone up for these kind of shows, but I was proved wrong when my friend said she had tried!

I wondered how they could make one little game last so many hours, but then I could see why when you find out what the answers actually are....

Its like 'car crash' tv really isn't it. You know its rubbish but you just can't stop yourself from watching. Time to go back on the sleeping tablets me thinks, although you would think something this cr*p would put you to sleep!

Just did a google on high shod and drew a blank, apparently high mettle means confident and optimistic (never heard of it)

Thanks for your replies, I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking that it's cr*p tv but as you say you just have to watch it!!

I think next time I have a sleepless night I'll just stick my radio on instead of trying to figure out how these insane people get their answers!!

What gets me is sometimes they give a huge clue ,like you only need to add the vowels etc to the clue and people still phone with the wrong answer and you think.. WHAT !!!! There is one born every minute ...

I know what you mean, I watched it one night and you had to name some tv detective shows - none of the decent well known ones were on there! Those presenters must be desperate to get into television if they are prepared to present that s***. Oops, isn't Brian Dowling a presenter on there?!

I would like to comment on these awful shows that clog up our TV late at night.

I often end up randomly watching them and I recently witnessed a game where the question (if you can call it that) was placed on screen:

It was similar to:

My Holidays.

14 days in Spain + 10 in Egypt,
Couple of days in Greece
19 days in Peru & Oz.
Home via Japan for 91 days.

- How many days?

I managed to catch the game from the very beginning and went about trying to solve the puzzle with no intention of calling in. I sat with a pen and paper and kept note of all the wrong answers. I was amazed at just how many there were and confused at how people were finding these answers. Of course they were all wrong! I was persistent and decided to watch until the end thinking that if no one got the correct answer that they would reveal it at the end.... oh no, they just took the riddle away and started a new game. What is rubbish doing on my TV?

One caller said he had been trying to get through for 3 months! When will someone stop this awful show and others like it? It prays on the uneducated who spend hundreds of pounds (which they can't afford) trying to get through only to get the wrong answer! THIS MUST STOP! If you are thinking of calling DON'T! It is a complete scam.

I have searched the net looking for the answers to previous games but have had no luck. If you call you will have to wait for ages to give your wrong answer and it will just end up costing you a Mint!
