Anyone able to suggest a bottle of plonk that would be decent with the xmas roast. Preferably around £6 mark or is that too low ?

Thanks

Sainsburys have a range of reds around 4 to 5 which are very reaosnable. Their Cotes du Rhone is nice and peppery at 3-99, and they do a claret and Montepulciano for example - their Rioja is too light in intensity.....
It's gotta be mulled wine. Any common red plonk heated up & mixed with the ubiquitous dried fruits.
Go to Tesco and buy Tesco own brand german Hoch. Its not too sweet nor isit dry
The best value I've seen at around that price is Morrison's Lagunilla Rioja Reserva 2006, which is currently reduced from £12.49 to just £5.00

(It had better be good because that's what I'll be drinking with Christmas lunch!)

Chris
Any one,to be perfectly honest!
Are you having a traditional turkey dinner?
I'd go for a white over a red with turkey, not sure if that is 'correct'. Maybe even a cava as its Christmas!
I agree about the Cava. If you can't break out a bottle of bubbly on Xmas Day, then when can you ! The supermarkets are selling some super Cava at under £5.00 a bottle, and it goes terribly well with turkey.

Bubbles are the answer !
A good Cava is lovely as an aperitif but it simply hasn't got the 'clout' to balance the flavours of a Christmas roast. Even if you're having the traditional turkey (instead of, say, beef) the flavours of the gravy and trimmings will still defeat most white wines. Stick to red!
How can you expect sensible answers to your question when you don't even mention what you plan to eat?
maxi, not everyone is picky about only drinking red with beef, etc.
Maxi. It says with the xmas roast. It is now 1st January , so rather academic at this stage.
Boxtops - in that case perhaps the question should read "whats the best wine of any description for under £6" and not mention Christmas.
It was a seasonal post, maxi - everyone knew what DC meant.
You might also question why, it now being a whole week later!

I wonder what the OP chose in the end...
Boxtops - from some of the answers I'm not sure you're right.
