Champagne! Do You Like It

Moet and Chandon champagne on offer in Sainsburys for £52.99 litre bottle glad I don't like champagne that would buy me quite a few presents or wine and brandy.

It depends on the champagne. However it is overpriced, it is just wine after all, but hyped as if it was something beyond all else.

adore the stuff .... my favourites are: Pol Roger, Gosset, Ruinart & other smaller growers.

Can't abide Prosecco or Cava - to me, the latter is like cream soda .... yuk

No, I don't like it... I LOVE it. It's my favourite tipple. Must be a good one though. I hate M & C, it's overpriced tasteless fizzy water. You'd be MUCH better off with a good Cava, like a Freixenet or a Cordoniu, both excellent. If you want champagne then drink nothing less than a Lanson or Laurent Perrier. If you can afford it(lotto win), then Krug or Dom P. Whatever you drink, enjoy it !! xx

I wouldn't touch cava with someone else's bargepole.

many years ago I was asked to do one of those consumer things where they approach you in the street. I found out at the end it was for Freixenet. I was asked to taste glasses of fizz and eat bits of cracker between tastes. I had to divide the glasses into the ones I liked and the ones I didn't like. I did the test and at the end I asked the woman (who looked quite worried) what my results were. All the dislikes I had chosen were Freixenet. The likes were a mixture of champagne and prosecco.

The same work goes into producing Cava, Woofie, produced under the description 'Méthode Champenoise', and that can still sell for a fiver a bottle. Big name, big price.
Some years back, Asda's own brand Cava was selling at something like £4.69 a bottle. Some days before Christmas, they reduced the price to £2.49 a bottle. Malcolm Gluck, wine critic for the 'Guardian', classed it as being superior to Krug champagne, which was selling then for £100 a bottle. Tells you something.

I know how its made heathfield, I just find it harsh. I "thought" I didn't like it, but was as surprised by the consumer test as the lady was. I honestly didn't think my palate was that good. This was a few years ago, I might not be able to do it now.

All the comparison between cava and krug tells me is that Malcolm Gluck and I disagree!!! I am sure that he wont lose any sleep over that and neither will I.

I too prefer Lanson to Moet, but I'd not refuse Veuve Cliquot. One of the best things I've ever bought on holiday is a top to keep an opened bottle of champage bubbly.
