Quinine In Tonic Water

Is quinine in tonic water causes problems with the kidneys or other health problems ?

You'd have to drink a lot of it over a very long period of time to have problems.

Personally it has worked wonders for my night-time leg cramps which can be excrutiating. Magnesium was useless at relieving the cramps but tonic water has been brilliant.

I don't know - but you've just rung alarm bells for me - I drank excessive quantities of  Tonic water for about 10 years.... now on non-alcoholic ciders    ; they're probably bad for me too.  :(

The level of dilution of quinine within tonic water is such that it's unlikely to cause problems for most people.  However, particularly for those with pre-existing conditions, it's still best to be aware of the risks.

In Mikhael Bulgakow's Notes of a County Doctor ( god that is enough to get ABers squawking and whingeing) ( made into a television series with Harry Potter as the  lead) - he has a chapter where the miller takes all his quinine in one go. - overdose is quite well described

Bulgakow qualified ND in Tsarist times but made it as an author - the Master and Margharita being. the hit in English
