I like Croft Particular (kept in the fridge so it is nicely chilled) and my Mother-in-Law likes Croft Original at room temperature. Neither of us rates Harveys as more than average.
Just as with wines in general, the price tends to reflect the quality. At around 2.50 a bottle, you'll never get anything in the way of a good quality sherry.

Thanks to annie/heath for your replies xxx
No it isn't.
Croft is also pretty average.
If you want to find out what sherry can really be like, and I guess you'd prefer sweeter to drier from the question, try some of the Lustau range (available in better supermarkets), also Gonzalez Byass aged range.
You won't buy Harvey's again.
If you really want to get carried away, check out the list from Steep Hill Wines in Lincoln. The guy who runs the shop has a website madaboutsherry.com. He is, and they sell some fabulous examples (though the prices do get a bit silly)

Hi dave - Thanks for your feedback. I had already tried 'Crofts' and wasn'nt blown away by it. So, I will definately try out your reccomendations!!! I'd been watching some old repeats of 'Upstairs Downstairs' & there was a scene where they were drinking Sherry & I thought I'd love to try and find a really good quality one!
Thanks so much xxx

OOh, by the way, I would much rather drink something not too sweet. Anyway, will give them all a try lol xxx
Yet another bit of advice, when you've probably had enough already. With sherry, as with wine, questions of "good" or "best" are muddled in with the question of "what works for me?" Sherry used to be drunk by our grandparents, sitting in one corner at Christmas, and it was always dark and sweet. So try a light, crisp, dry sherry (look for the word "Fino" on the label). Go with dave123456's idea - don't grab a "well known" brand off the supermarket shelf (unless your granny actually is coming round). Look for a Fino that you've never heard of, put it in the fridge, and chill it to within an inch of its life. Drink it early evening or (best of all) on a lazy Sunday afternoon. You can even pour it over ice. It may take a few tries before you find one you really like, but you may hit on something that blows your socks off. And, when you do, think how good it will be to introduce your friends to your new discovery!

OOh, winebuyer! Sorry, I seem to have overlooked your posting! Well, I bought a bottle of Olorosso de Jerez. It's really nice, but, as you have said, I'm still looking for the one that 'works for me' I would like to try a 'slightly' more sweeter version to this one. Thanks for your 's and Daves passionate response! lol xxx
