For many years I have made espresso by using My Russell Hobbs espresso maker, but it has never given me this so called Creme on top that you get in Coffee shops.

I always make sure it is tamped down and fresh water used.
It is no prob. to me but it would 'look good'
Is it just me or can I do something to get it ?

I use a stovetop espresso maker & don't get a crema with that either, but it's lovely.

watch this - looks good but I wouldn't go to that extreme

It'll probably be the coffee, I'm not sure what sort you use, but I used to work in Costa coffee and we used freshly ground coffee beans, I'm pretty sure without those you wont get the Creme
It could be your machine the crema coffee shop machines create is good because the machine cost 1000+ usually and have a higher pressure gauge. There's some interesting info here which may help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espresso
