Am I the only one who is alarmed at the lack of common hygiene in the myriad of cooking shows that bombard the TV highway? Stoking fallen hair back and then touching food that others have to eat seems to be the norm now.

I certainly wouldn't eat at a restaurant where the staff didn't at least tie their long hair back. .

Yes, and wash their hands...

I'm always concerned when TV chefs handle chicken then just dip their hands in soapy water and wipe. When dealing with chicken I always washa my hands thoroughly afterwards.

Drives me wild! As does a quick-wipe-on-a-tea-towel of hands when they've handled raw chicken. I've taught hundreds of people to cook, and the first thing I stipulate especially to the kids, I get them to shout out the answer to me when I ask: 'What is the most important ingredient in any recipe?' They shout 'Clean hands and nails, and long hair tied back' then I do an inspection, and if all is satisfactory, we carry on!

Once saw Ainsley Harriott on 'Ready, Steady, Cook' patting some minced lamb into burgers, then straight away using his hands to mix a bowlful of salad leaves. Yech!

And Jamie Oliver tastes things with his little finger , doesn't wash it, and then uses the same finger for another taste.

i hate when they dont wash meat or produce-possibly they make the meals just for the show but dont eat them after
