Puklavec And Friends Slovenian Sauvignon Blanc, currently £6.74 from £8.99.
Let us all salute Waitrose for being the first UK supermarket to stock a Slovenian wine. Puklavec and his friends, as the label kindly informs, picked the grapes near the town of Stajerska on the 6th and 23rd Septemeber, 2009. The wine has an intense bouquet - more intense than your average Sauv Blanc - and mouthwatering flavours of tropical fruits which is given further complexity with a good dose of minerality. It is one of the most concentrated and pure wines I have ever tasted and the overall result is a truly dynamic white with great length; a wine you or your friends won't forget in a hurry! I never thought I'd say this, but this magnificent vino leaves its NZ counterparts firmly in the shade.
Hmmmm.... I wonder if Puklavec is on Facebook...???
had some slovenian wine a few years back present from a junior doctor working for us... have to say it was foul but the blue glass bottle with the painted label was very pretty obviously they were not exporting the good stuff back then
