I'm having the meal I love most tonight - new potatoes and cabbage from the garden with grilled smoked bacon. I can't wait.
It reminds me of when I was young - the smell of pepper on cabbage takes me back to my uncle coming in from work, and long, idyllic days at my grandparents' farm.
Do any of you have particular memories of meals you enjoyed as a child?

Roast pork with crackling, apple sauce, roast pots. etc followed by treacle pudding and cream. Yummmmmm
My nan's stew which she used to cook in a huge pot on the fire oven.......
My nan used to make me cod in butter sauce. It was delish.....

My grandad, the strange man he is, used to have a Chinese every night. Now, when I smell a Chinese curry it always reminds me of him.

When I say every night, he had one every night for about a year. Then he had KFC every night for about a year. Then, for the next 10 years or so he switched and changed between the two.
My Mom used to do a similar meal but with runner beans - loved it and still have it now.
oh tigerlelley how I agree, my mouths watering.
My Mum used to serve up fish (finny haddy) with a poached egg on top which me and my brother loved. Dad made a mean pea and ham soup. Happy memories of childhood.
giveup- The sad thing is I only have to look at a meal like that now and I put on half a stone!
Been trying to think of something delicious that my parents used to cook yet all that comes to mind is the bad things, burnt custard being one of them.
My dad did used to fry a mean baked bean mind you.
My Nonna's sugo, she lets it boil for about 5 hours and the whole house smells of it. In fact you can smell it going up the driveway...delicious!
My grandmothers Toad in the hole with onion gravy.
dahl and roti
Saturday was always special. My mum would do steak, fried chicken or pork chops with homemade chips/sautee potatoes or baked potatoes served with grilled tomatoes, fried mushrooms and salad. Sounds like a 'Harvester' menu, long before Harvesters ever hit the streets, LOL!
barnbrack was always a favourate as well as boiled bacon and cabbage
favourite*
my mum always made me a big bowl of cauliflower cheese when I was ill
I have always preferred my mother not to cook. However, at my friends house, I was always very partial to their home made salad dressing randomly.
as a special meal my mum would make vesta beef curry, beefburgers fried till they were like shoe leather, and potato cakes, all on the same plate. we thought it was very adventurous..
The daughter used to love my Vesta Paella......burnt.
I must go on a hunt to find Vesta curry, it must be 20yrs since I last saw/ate one and quite fancy re-aquainting myself with the memory. In a similar vein I was quite partial to Findus/Birds Eye frozen prawn curry and rice.
