I have inherited a pot grown grape vine its about 3ft tall, the label says it is a non-flowering variety. However it now has individual pale mauve flowers. What do you think the chances are that we may have grapes? The label says it will fruit from August to October but with the appearance of the flowers (which apparently shouldn't be there) I am sceptical. Does anyone know about a non-flowering Vitis?

which variety does the label say it is. If they flower they do tend to produce fruit but it is dependant on many factors as the whether they ripen in the UK.
i doubt you'll get any grapes this year whatever variety it is. ours is full of little bunches of them, they're usually fully ripe by the end of october. if yours is only just flowering it's maybe a bit late for fruit. funny that it's a non-flowering variety, wonder how the fruits will form if there are no flowers?? maybe there's an expert out there who knows..
So if it's a non-flowering variety, presumably it's grown just for the leaves? What variety name does it say on the label, minty?

The label just says "Vitis" with a picture of a bunch of grapes. Then there is this message. "This vitis can be placed in the sun. Does not flower. Deciduous. Bears fruit from August to October. Edible from August to October."
I have no idea how old it is or of course whether it has ever fruited before.
Thanks for the interest.
sounds odd to me because there is no fruit without flower.
You cannot have fruit without flowers. There is something wrong with the label. It has to be one thing or the other and if it doesn't have flowers you can't have fruit. Very strange.
I have 2 grapevines growing outside. Do you think the label might say non-flowering for the benefit of those who might expect 'showy' flowers? Vine flowers are very small green and insignificant.
^ Correct :) 10/10
