just went into sainsburys for something that was on offer and decided to get a french stick loaf, plain ones 40p, about average, and ones with sesame seeds on 49p, what a rip off!
I shop at Sainsbury`s because we`ve got two branches here and no other big stores. They`ve become really expensive. You go down just to get a few items and it seems to be about £15 every time. I seem to spend a fortune there. I try to go to local markets where I can for veg and fish but if I`ve got to drive there and spend on petrol, that defeats the object.
Hi gina,
I use this website to search for an item and then compare what price it's selling for at the others! If you sign up, no catches or anything .. and just use it to compae prices .. you'll be amazed at some of the price differences!http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/
Yes, their breads are good. I used to know someone who was a food scientist in Sainsbury`s head office and breads were her department. She often used to tell me about awards that Sainsburys had won for their breads. When I`ve had bread from Tesco`s, they`ve just been full of air holes. I try to make my own where I can though.
i dont much like sainsburys bread, in fact not a lover of bread full stop, but just fancied one of these and couldnt be bothered going anywhere else to get one
Apparently the breads are baked on the premises but not made there. They get some of their dough from France, bake it instore and claim it`s French bread.
Cakes were her department too. Cakes always used to be down the end of the store because they worked on the psychology of the housewife shopping for the family and trudging up and down the aisles. When they got to the end of the store, they would see the cakes and think, "right, now I`m going to get something to treat myself" and would buy a cake. With changing times the cakes have been replaced with wine and that`s now the treat at the end of the store.
