Fancy restaurants

I've been watching episodes of Hells Kitchen on youtube. The food looks simply delicious. I would love to experience eating in a top restaurant just to see how different the food actually is.

Has anyone here ever ate at a top restaurant & what were your thoughts.

I've eaten at Gilgamesh in Camden. The food was out of this world! I'm a really fussy eater and was worried at nothing really appealled to my simple tastes but I was blown away.

I've also eaten at Simpons in the Strand. To be honest I can't remember too much about that meal as the wine was flowing well but by god it was goooood wine.

I've eaten at the Savoy.. it was very good, but anyone with a bit of know-how and decent ingredients could knock up the same dish (myself included!). unless you wanted something really random and expensive? that doesn't really work for me :o)

I did enjoy Zilli's fish restaurant in Soho.

I was taken out once to a restaurant in Regent Street called the Hunting Lodge. This was 40 years ago, and I dont even see it when I google the name. The food was very, very expensive and the celebrity who took me was probably trying to impress. I remember that an asparagus tip was about 3 quid. My weekly wage for me about 12 pounds!

Evianbaby- Hi I'm a fussy eater too a lot of the choices I would be too scared to order, but after watching HK it looks sooo good. I've often wondered if you'd be able to tell the difference between a good restaurant & an ordinary one like weatherspoons. :)

Sara3- the savoy wow, you would expect the best there.

Grasscarp- that's the thing with all these fancy eating places, they charge a whack for the food they serve...question is...is it really worth it?

no puddleduck. You are paying for the ambience, the exclusivity, the fuss and the food is usually no better than in a normal restaurant IMHO

I have been to some grand establishments that were never as good as one might have anticipated.

By far the most incredible dining experience for me was at Le Dauphin in El Portet, Moraira, Spain.

I disagree. Of course you are paying for all the thing Grasscarp mentions but if you did a blind tasting test from either of the places I mentioned and a Weatherspoons you would absolutely be able to tell the difference.
