Help please with my new Kindle before smash it!

I have just got the newest kindle, and I am struggling to register it. I have Total Broadband from BT with wi-fi. The kindle has wi-fi. I can't seem to connect it. I am a bit of a trog when it comes to this sort of thing, so if anyone can help (please) can they put it in very basic terms?

Your wi fi router will have a broadcast name and a password.

To connect a laptop (and I assume the kindle) you need to let the wi fi "find" the broadcast name, then when prompted enter the password.

If you have already connected your laptop to the router I guess it will be similar to that (I have never connected a kindle to a wi fi router).

Sorry as soon as I switched on the wifi on the kindle it found my signal.......

Have you pulled the power slider across and held it until the screen appears?

This is probably a stupid question, but if you can't switch it on, are you sure it's fully charged?

There isn't a power slider, just a push in button on the bottom. I hav tried pressing this and holding there, a green light flashes then nothing happens.

It's been charging for over 2 hrs blurb on net says needs about an hour. I'll leave it charging another few hours and see if that does the trick. Thanks.

There isn't a little power slider on the narrow edge at the bottom? It's quite small and flat.

I would try charging it for 30 minutes then try again to switch it on. If this doesn't work you should contact Amazon for advice.

Put it on charge..............if the power light shows amber it needs charging, the light will turn to green when charged.

Ah, right. No, that isn't what I've got - and mine was quite a bit more expensive than that. Should have waited! :o)

It is the new version emeritus. The charger is plugged in and there is a green light on it craft.

And you still can't switch it on? I'd say it's faulty.

So when you press the power switch and wait a few seconds the screen stays blank ?
