It's my daughter in law's baby shower tomorrow so I'm making cup cakes today. Just wondering if they all have to have butter icing------would the sort of frosting that sometimes goes on carrot cakes be ok? butter, philly cheese etc. I thought it might tone down the sweetness a bit.

Yes actually I think frosting is better than butter icing. Philly is fine if they are going to be eaten within a day or two wont keep too long with cheese involved.
Cream cheese icing would be my choice but then I prefer them not to be too sweet.
frosting also neat circles of royal icing decorated with 'cake colouring paint or pens' and sugar jewels or icing motifs
