Tesco are now doing a range of monovarietal wines called, "Simply".

Simply Cabernet Sauvignon, Simply Chianti, Simply Sauv Blanc, Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay and many other varieties. With prices ranging from £3.69 to £5.49 per bottle, it not only is affordable, it takes away the complication of choosing a wine for those who would normally stand there scratching their heads and not knowing what to choose.

However, Wine of the Week this week is another corker from the Bernard Series - The Whole Bunch Grenache Blanc / Viognier (SA 14%). An incredibly flavoursome wine with beautiful aromas of wild mushroom and herbs. Would pair well with a creamy chicken pie or mushroom risotto. Available in Tesco for £10.99.

Hi NoMercy !
In Sainsbury's today
Cape Nelson (S.Africa)
Fairtrade Shiraz (14%) 1/2 Price @ £4.99

McGuigan (Austr)
Grenache,Shiraz Mourvedre (14%)
2 for £10 RRP £9.99 each

Barolo (14%) £16.29 and
Chateauneuf du Pape (14.5%) £14.99
2 of my fav Italian and French Wines but a little out of my Price range at the moment !!
I must have Ankou's nose*, as I can taste wines well enough but I'd never notice the aroma of wild mushroom or the other things labels tell me are there.

* I wonder if he'd like it back
Question Author
The aromas in the wine were very much "in your face", jno. It was one of the most incredibly aromatic wines I've tried.

Good work, Redman. I hope you treat yourself to some Chateauneuf for xmas!
as it Aldi, OG? If not, they have it...
Yes, maybe at Xmas NoMercy as they are nice Wines !
It probably is. It is one of the places we buy stuff.
Question Author
I had a Barolo once but ended up pouring it down the sink.

I do love a Chateauneuf though. And I may have to nip up to Sainsburys to try out the Fairtrade Shiraz!
I'd like to be reincarnated as NoM's sink
Question Author
lol !

I think I had a bad bottle.
Barolo Wines are not to everyone's taste as they tend to taste of 'Coal Tar', for the want of a better explanation, but the top class ones are super.
du Pape Wines are very good as well as Cote du Rhone.
These strong reds are great with Steaks/Roasts......
China - that`s not a Rioja. It`s Carta ROJA Monastrell. It looks like Rioja at first glance and it`s easy to grab it by mistake at the supermarket (a crafty ploy).
Question Author
Ah... Carta Roja. I know which one you mean.

Indeed they are, Redman.
OG - not sure what part of the UK you are in - However, Lightfoot Wines offer it - Rotherham but they are on line - http://www.lightfootwines.co.uk

Also on line - http://www.winesbeers...ir_3500610033292.html
Hmmmm... definitely was a rioja I had so that can't be it, the only other ones on there were quite colourful labels and I distinctly remember looking at them but putting them back. I did think I hadn't seen the wires on the bottle.... Let me have a look at tescos website, I might have got it there.
and for the designated drivers during the holiday season.

coca cola is 2 x 8 cans for a fiver in tesco :)
Carta Roja- a Sainsburys special - not that big a fan of it.

They are doing a Cahors at the moment for 5-49 down here "La Patrie" = last bottle wasn't bad - a hearty wine as one would expect with this Malbec. Their own brand Cotes du Rhones ain't bad for £3-99 a bottle - nice and peppery
China - just as well. Monastrell doesn`t have much depth and I didn`t like it. The Rioja Crianza Reserva`s good though.
Question Author
I had some of those last week, Redcrx, and need more.

He has them in his lunchbox to stop him paying the exorbitant Motorway rip off prices for cans and bottles!

237, was it a Crianza or a Reserva?
Currently free delivery & £15 off a £60 quid spend with code XXTTPT at tesco wine online.

Add that to the 'double value' redemption offer on clubcard vouchers against tesco finest wine and I got a dozenTesco Finest Chianti Riserva (very nice indeed) for £13 plus £20 of vouchers

Nom, both. The Campo Viejo Crianza and the Campo Viejo Reserva. Sometimes my local pub has a good deal on the Reserva where you buy two glasses and get the rest of the bottle free. Not bad.
