Block 13 Mclaren Vale Australian Rousanne/Marsanne/Viognier.

This is a dry and elegant wine with flavours of crisp, crunchy green apple and tropical fruits, with a sherbety tang on the finish. Would make an excellent partner to Asian and spicy foods, or finger foods such as duck rolls and Tempura prawns. Available in Tesco at the normal price of £8.99. Also available online:

i´m a lucky bleeder,her indoors/novia, makes a really good to die for seafood paella, i´ll have to download a pic tomorrow if i dont get carried away by the fragrances.

So what wine were you thinking of having on Christmas Day?

The OH and I were discussing what to have last night, and as it's just the two of us during the day, we agreed to have a 3-course meal consisting of:

Aubergine and Goats Cheese Stack with balsamic reduction
Beef Wellington, braised red cabbage and 1 or 2 other veg and roasties
Cheese Board

He said he'd like a really nice red to go with it, so I was thinking the Condado De Haza Ribera Del Duero which is available in Sainsbury's for £15.99.

I will also try and get a Perrier Jouet for sipping whilst I'm cooking. I think there is a wine shop down in Alverstoke Bay which sells it.
I havent given it a thought yet - I usually like a good Bordeaux with the turkey and cheese - something like a Ch. Pierre (St Julien) if I can find it, and perhaps a 95 and good years in between up to 04.

A Vicars Choice or Peter Leeuwin to begin with - or a Cloudy Bay bubbles (that's worth trying NoM - and have you tried the Camel Valley bubbly as well?)

Cloudy Bay bubbles... is that a Sauv B (NZ)?

I have tried the Ocean's Edge bubbles (9.99 in Tesco, but often on at half price). A very enjoyable drink!
bit more than a tenner, more like double that and possibly a blue note on top. Principally Chard - they are also doing a late Riesling - may need to track that one down.

Oooh... I have seen an Autumn Picked Riseling I rather fancy the look of in Tesco. I may have to make a scheduled stop on the way home...

however, have you any idea where i can get blackwoods gin? used to be available almost everywhere but has gone from the sshelves for some time now.
I'll have to do a quick scan of my resources - first one I would try is Experience wines in Truro - or how about that booze shop at Constantine.

I did post an apology for the joke but it has been removed as I did put a dig in at somebody belittling me behind my back and the other about his revealing of personal information which is au contraire to Ed rules and it isnt his first time. A-Prancer went ballistic at him somewhile back.....

there's a new hair place on Castle St - best I have found in Truro for cutting my hair - they normally need an acetylene torch!

Experience has some very nice unusual wines, LJ, with an emphasis on young growers. If you want a lovely bottle, their Chilean Odfjell Organza is superb....

Well done for finding the Gin.
It might just tempt me, NoM - I have never heard of a Shetland gin before - well next time I am in there, Experience that is, which will be Wednesday, I'll see if they have a snifter to try.

Unfortunately the café right opposite, one of my haunts, is up for sale, well the lease is. They do really good breakfasts and nice lunches - am hoping the current "manager", a Breton girl, can muster the money and take it over. LJ, it was in the West Briton property/comm business sales this week.
DT just got back to this thread. sorry to hear about your cafe. haven't been there yet as my trips into truro are usually fairly quick and i don't get to spend much time just wandering around. (OH always comes with me as an escape from the village and he hates mooching about). great difference between us there - i sit down, relax and people/happenings watch and he sits down, has something to eat/drink, gets up and goes. i'm good at wasting time.
well LJ, I am hoping that this French girl will take it over so there won't be much change as the food is very good there - bearing in mind its more of a café than a restaurant. Could up the wine range that they have - and in their shoes, I would link the restaurant in with the wine shop across the road and use them as your own "cave" for the customers.

I like meandering as well, people watching and all the rest - a good one for that is the Lemon St Gallery café - upstairs or downstairs in their other outlet, the Explorers. The name of the hair place I use is so original, "The Hair Boutique" but she seems to be superb - folk who have seen me have commented on how it looks, properly thin, layered and all that.
hi there DT i have been to the explorers and find that the food is okay, freshly prepared/cooked and tasty. have been going to roccoco's in llemon street for about 10/11 years. Any of the staff do a reasonable job with hair, much better than some i tried when i first came down here. was in such despair i almost went back to kent for a visit just to get my hair done. Jeremy and his scissors are really something special.
