What are prawn crackers made of?

Well You can buy them from the shops, and they are small and hard plastic like translucent shapes. I don't know the actual ingredients, but when you put these small hard shapes into hot oil, they expand and become the prawn cracker as we know it. they are totally inedible before you cook them.
