I know.. my life, the excitement never stops!

I'm thinking of buying a decent set of pans. I seem to buy a medium-priced set each year as they start to look shabby or the non-stick coating looks ropey (no metal utensils used!).

I currently have a halogen (glass) hob, but hopefully would like to end up with a gas hob at some stage.

I'm not rich but will pay for some good quality stuff.

any suggestions/recommendations/warnings, please?

I have a good set of cutlery but I also have loads of different knives and forks and spoons for everyday use. I am going to sling the lot and have them all the same . I am not posh but just want a change.
i want a set of le creuset but way out of my price range, i buy a piece every now and then when they are in the sales,
Hey mccfluff, I cannot even lift le ceuset when they are empty.

wendilla, I also have a canteen of cutlery that appears about 4 times a year! in the kitchen drawer there is a mish-mash of 3 different sets. one old set, one new set (that I prefer but the kids hate), and an uncomfortable-to-hold set!

Fluffy, thanks.. may check them out. they must be a good investment. not sure about the colours though!
I use Stellar pots and Le Creuset. Both are a wee bit pricey but they last!
Question Author
Brenden, I think that's a fair point, too
Le Creuset's fine if you have strong wrists- I can hardly lift them when they're empty!
Question Author
vnc, I've not heard of Stellar.. will look them up.

anyone know where best to go for a bargain this time of year? I hate the sales :o/
Le Creuset now do a stainless steel range and they are very good. A cheaper alternative is Meyer which are also very good. I have a very old Stellar saucepan that is doing well too.

Buy the best you can afford and make sure they have a thick bottom for even heat distribution.
Mine are stellar, Sara. I bought them to use on a halogen hob. Pricey, but worth it.
Question Author
thanks to all :o)

there seem to be a few different types of Stellar pans.. I'm confused! I'll have a look on Amazon..
i will be buying my usual low to medium priced cobblers :/
joh lewis sales starts today and i saw le creuset on sale in marks but they were ting casserole pots, and apart from going awwwww cute i couldn't figure out what the f you'd do with them
Question Author
cazzz... cobblers? excuse me?!!

fluffy, I'm short on storage space, I can't buy "cute" things, lol ;o)
Got a set of Meyer pots as a wedding present 23 years ago. They're still going strong.
for cobblers read "tefal"
Le Creuset if you are a strong lass - they last for years and I have had my casseroles for over 25 years now.

Failing that, buy fewer than more if you are on a budget, buy quality - copper with an adonised steel base work very well with halogen hobs......the only issue is cleaning them with Cu cleaner but they do look nice and, more importantly, cook well.
Question Author
thanks Douglas, will have a lookie..

DT, what's a CU cleaner?
Question Author
I'm not sure I qualify as a big, strong lass!
the " which " web site usually give good advice re quality and price.
