i have a friend in her early 60s who insists on boiling her teatowels in a pan on the hob as she doesn't think they get a good enough wash in the washing maching.
personally i think she's making work for herself, mine go in a 30o wash along with all the other laundry and come out nice and clean.

I don't like washing my tea towels in with the clothes, so I do mine separately in the machine with some distinfectant or bleach.

Best to throw out all your tea towels and sponge as they are a great place to grow germs,

Whilst boiling may not be strictly neceessary it does tend to kill the germs, so I say bully for your early 60s friend. More power to her boiler.

I wash tea towels and dish cloths on a 90º wash. If they are badly stained I soak them in Vanish first.

I boil mine sometimes especially when I know I will be making scones as I wrap them in a teatowel when they come out the oven to stop them hardening as they cool. Dishcloths a soak in hot water from the kettle and bleaach Ditto scourers
