I was brought up on spotted dick and custard or sugar and butter. It was a suet pudding with sugar and dried fruit incorporated, not as a filling!
Spotted Dick is flour, sugar, suet, dried sultanas mixed with milk no eggs and boiled in a pudding cloth or steamed (can be steamed in a pudding basin too if you prefer but usually done in a cloth). This recipe is our family one been used for years and is delicious served with lovely hot custard.
