italian cooking cream- panna

when i lived in italy years and years ago, you could buy a cream used for cooking. it was in a little square carton and you could get sweet or savoury. it was delish with pasta etc and perfect for sauces. does anyone know what the equivalent would be here? Or if it's still available anywhere?
