Foreign object in carton of juice
12 Answers
Last night we found a lump of plastic/rubber in a carton of Rubicon Mango juice. We emptied the carton of juice into a bowl, and there were loads of bits of plastic. When you shake the carton, you can still hear bits of plastic in there. I've emailed Rubicon, but as its a Saturday, they haven't answered. My question is do I sent it back to Rubicon for them to examine it, or does it go to somewhere like trading stadards??? Anyone know??? I don't want to send it back and them then deny there was anything strange!!! And yes, I had drunk some so I don't know if I'm being slowly poisoned!!!

I would suspect that they would ask you to send it back and you would get some compensation for your trouble - I am sure that they would like to know about it and try to work out what the problem is. Am not sure whether trading standards shoudl be involved or not - I would be inclined to leave them out of it but others might disagree.
Thanks for your answers. I've already emailed Rubicon, but am not expecting an answer before Monday - there is no phone number on the website (that I can see!!) - hopefully they will call and put my mind at rest without involving TS - it was such large pieces of plastic, I'm sure there's a conveyer belt or two in there LOL
Twirl, there is such a long use by date on the cartons, I tend to get them where-ever I'm shopping at the time (and where they are on offer!!), and store them in my garage. It could have come from three or four different supermarkets.

I would contact the manufacturers direct - I have had to contact a nit lotion manufacturer (the lotion brought one of my children out in a really nasty rash). They have asked me to send the remainder of the solution to them so they can test it (I was quite impressed by how seriously they are taking it), asked if she had been seen by a medical practioneer (and if they can contact them) and where and when I bought the product. Hope you get to the bottom of it (and really glad it want a dead thing that you found).
Some years ago Trish nearly broke a tooth on a McVities ginger-nut which on examination was found to have a small stainless steel nut, looked to be about 4BA, baked into it. Off it went back to McVities along with a covering letter and that was that. Then after several months we had a note from the post office that they had a parcel for us which we found contained a large selection of McVities products, a letter of apology and a detailed report including a photo showing where the nut had come from.
Update: Spoken to Rubicon (they didn't answer my email, even though it was marked urgent!!) and they are sending me a container to post the carton and the black bits back to them. The girl I spoke to said that she thought it might be some form of mold - not what I wanted to hear when I've already drunk some!!! Should know in a couple of weeks what it is and whether its poisonous!! Thanks for your replies xxx
