It sounded like some post-op infection, I must say, and not uncommon. However, the GP (inexperienced I understand) had thouht it was flu.....I guess that, rightly so, they wanted some assurance on this.

Hi all, missed this thread.
The nurse practitioner examined his wounds last night and was pleased to say that they were okay. He only fulfilled 2 sides of sepsis triad so the general consensus was that it was just a bad bug. Spoke to surgeon today and he agreed - particularly as he himself had a bug last week with the same symptoms.
Bob is still pyrexic on and off with a diminished appetite but he's otherwise okay. Thanks for your kind wishes. X x
