Co-op Fairtrade Gran Reserva Argentine Malbec 2011.

Historically, Argentina have kept the majority of their vinicultural produce to themselves but in recent years more and more of their wines are making their way over here, much to winelovers' delight.

A vast proportion of the areas dedicated to wine cultivation are dry and arid with low rain and humidity, thus necessitating irrigation from the Andean range thaw. Soil is deep and low in organic matter and it is a combination of these factors which render this region an oasis for good quality wine cultivation.

The Gran Reserva Malbec is a prime example of Argentine wine production at its very best. Deep crimson in colour, it is full-bodied, rich and sumptuous with surprisingly soft tannins. Aromas of toasty red fruits give way to a palate of dark red cherries, dark plums and a hint of spicyness - characteristics which fall somewhere between a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Merlot. Excellent with roasts and charcoal grills.

Available for the offer price of £6.39 (down from £7.99).

Can I also just mention that one of my favourite wines of all time, Yellow Tail Aussie Shiraz, is currently rolled back to £5 in Asda. Happy days!
If you into 'Vino Aldista' then buy (several) copies of the Daily Mirror today - there is a "£5 off £35" voucher which effectively reduces the price of their many excellent wines by nearly 15% ...

We are just having a rather delightful Runestone Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. £4.99 from the co-op. :-D
Talking Argie wines - my "contribution" to the thread is a Vinalba, excellent blend of Cab Sauv,Malbec and Merlot 2010 - £7-99 Majestic (2botts)- plum, black currant, choccy and mocha, very Malbec-y, long lasting, juicy tannins tasty.

Tried your Alexander Valley (well have had it in the States) and its providing a nice balance to my pasty here.

For tonight, rather an exciting one that has rave reviews for its flavour, Quinta das Cerejeiras Reserva 2004 from CADS (Companhia Agricola Do Sanguinhal), Obidos in Portugala blend of Castello, Aragonez and Touriga Nacional grapes....supposed to be a deliciously smooth-texture wine, with soft tannins, touch of spice sweet plum flavour and just the right amount of maturity to calm the tannins.

Anyone know where I can source a decent Hungarian wine?
what type - as the Tokaji dessert wines (an ice wine is fer-ab).....
Question Author
I love Canadian Ice wine.

I was thinking of a good Canadian Riesling.
Question Author
Sorry, Hungarian Riesling...
I love Tokaji - well worth the splash out for Aszu Puttonyos....I even drink it as an apero - a deep intense icy sweetness with a sourish top note which provides the contrast and the bite....

They do some non noble rots which run out around typically £15 a bottle, an intense light-mediun white, Tokaji Mandolas or a Mezes Maly.....
Question Author
Sounds very enticing.
